Abstract
Ion-selective electrodes of copper and lead were employed to determine the endpoints in potentiometric titrations involving the two ions with selected reagents. Good results were obtained in titrations of cupric solutions with ethylenediamine, propylenediamine, transcyclohexane-1,2-diamine, diethylenetriamine, and EDTA at pH 5 and 10. Titration of Pb² solutions gave good endpoints with WO₄² and EDTA at pH 5 and 10. Poor results were obtained in titrations of Cu²and Pb² with the following titrants: anthranilic acid, Fe(CN)₆ , PO₄³, C₂O₄², CO₃², CrO₄², and MoO₄². Titrations of cupric solutions with 5-sulfosalicylic acid, diethylamine, 2-diethylaminoethanol, and WO₄² also gave poor results. The application of a standard addition procedure increased the number of metal ions which can be determined by this potentiometric method.
