Abstract
Problems involved in evaluation of student teaching prompted formulation of an objective for research. The objective was to develop a model from behavioral objectives for evaluation of student teachers. The model was to serve four functions: (1) to assist in formulating written evaluation policies, (2) to assist in developing evaluative instruments, (3) to assist in developing in-service training for supervising teachers, and (4) to provide recommended areas of commonality in student-teacher evaluation. After completing a study of different approaches to stating objectives in performance terms, literature related to the evaluation of student teachers was reviewed to identify knowledges, skills, and characteristics of teaching performance which were emphasized. Current practices employed by teacher training institutions were also reviewed to determine the content for behavioral objectives. Using Gronlund's technique, the initial objectives were formulated. They were submitted to a panel of five experts selected from across the nation. They examined the objectives for terminology and clarity of expression. The performance objectives were then sent to the 54 directors of teacher training programs approved by the Texas Education Agency for their evaluation. The responses from the directors determined those objectives which composed the model program. ...
