Abstract
This research was to evaluate a technique to focus the attention of tenth grade students on environmental values. Information used in constructing the student materials was gathered from current books, magazines, and newspapers. Thirty-one packets of student materials called value sheets were developed on environmental issues. Selected value sheets were evaluated in twenty classrooms in a large Texas metropolitan area. The value sheets were used twice a week for a period of ten weeks. The subjects covered included: air pollution, water pollution, solid waste, population problems, land use, wild life, the costs of not cleaning up pollution, and the energy crisis. The pretest and posttest for this study were adapted from an existing attitude survey. As judged by the results of the pretest and posttest, the value sheets did not affect the students' reactions to a significant number of items on the test. Examined on the basis of student socioeconomic status level and environmental awareness level, no significant change in reaction to statements on the test was found as a result of the use of the value sheets.
