Abstract
Conceptually, the purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of cognitive rehearsal on the level of measures of anxiety in college students. Operationally, the purpose was to determine whether the use of group discussion of problem solving was related to change in a composite anxiety measure before and after experiences in problem solving situations. Eighty college students (forty males and forty females) participated in the study. A 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design was used. The independent variables were: Treatment (cognitive rehearsal-control groups), Therapist (two male therapists), and Sex of the subject (males and females). The dependent variable, a composite measure of anxiety, was derived from scores on the: First Factor Scale (A), Iowa Manifest Anxiety Scale (MA), Judged Anxiety Scale (JA), Anxiety Index (AI), estimation of time (week, month, years) into the past and future, and galvanic Skin Response measure. The dependent variable was measured in a pre-test-post-test method. ...
