A beam-column method for tieback walls or anchored walls was developed and tested. An instrumented full scale tieback wall in sand was constructed at the National Geotechnical Experimentation Site located on the Texas A&M University Riverside Campus. The measured performance of the tieback wall was investigated and an earth pressure deflection soil model was developed from the measurements. The construction sequence was simulated in the proposed method. The conceptual methodology of an anchored wall design was introduced using the proposed beam-column method. It is concluded that the proposed method represents a significant improvement in the prediction of bending moments in such walls. The proposed method underestimates the deflection of an anchored wall because the mass movement is not included in the predictions. In order to reduce the mass movement or severely restrict the deflection of such walls, the bonded length of the anchor needs to be in the unmoving soil mass.en
