dc.description.abstract | The relationship between legislators and political action committees has been consistently characterized in political science as one in which PACs pursue candidates offering contributions. The literature in the business field posits the opposite; that it is in fact the legislators who pursue PACs and their contributions. The purpose of this dissertation is to reconcile these conflicting views. Responses to surveys by PAC officials, former and current members of Congress are compared to triangulate on the true direction of the relationship. Considered were also the various organizational differences which may account for the ability and/or likelihood of PACs to be solicited by candidates. | en |
