Abstract
This study was undertaken to determine what factors are associated with the Colombian small farmers' acceptance or nonacceptance of the selected corn practices recommended by the Colombian Agricultural Institute's (ICA) technicians. Three hypotheses were statistically tested using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) computer program. Two hundred and sixteen small farmers were randomly selected from a population consisting of heads of households living in the District of Garcia Rovira, Department of Santander, Colombia. The data were gathered through the use of an interview schedule. The three hypotheses were supported that the small corn farmers' degree of innovativeness is positively related to their perceptions of: 1) the technician's technical competency, 2) the relevancy of the practices to his situation, and 3) the nature of his participation in programming. This study implies a need technical assistance to modify the conventional service to small farmers in Colombia.
