dc.description.abstract | The central purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes of school superintendents in five major controversial areas of Title IX, and then to determine if these attitudes have a relationship with certain personal characteristics of the school superintendents. To achieve this purpose, the following objectives were developed: 1. To identify personal characteristics that most likely have a relationship to attitudes toward Title IX. 2. To identify issues most likely to be pertinent in identifying attitudes toward Title IX. 3. To determine areas of positive and negative attitudes held by school superintendents toward: (a) Title IX interpretations and clarifications produced by Public Law 92-318 and the HEW Regulations; (b) counseling changes as a result of T it le IX; (c) mandated changes in school regulations and policies with regard to Title IX; (d) policy changes dealing with personnel because of T it le IX; and (e) policy conflicts in the area of extracurricular activities as a result of Title IX. 4.
