dc.description.abstract | Most of the reliability studies, both single and multi-area, ignore the effect of the energy limitations. The limitation on available energy for the generating units can, however, have a significant effect on system reliability. This Dissertation develops new analytical models for the reliability evaluation of electric power generation systems including the effects of energy limitation, so the reliability evaluation provides more realistic results for system planning and operation. In single area generation systems, energy limitation is modeled by using peak shaving method (PSM) and conditional convolution, with the equivalent load model. In multi-area generation systems, a probabilistic power flow model is used. The peak shaving method is extended to multi-area evaluation using cluster loads to model energy limitation. A controlled maximum flow method is proposed to reduce the sets generated in the recursive state space decomposition. The proposed method are described and tested by using IEEE-RTS (Reliability Test System) and EPRI synthetic system. Future research topics are recommended. | en |
