The Role Of Adrenal Steroid Components Near Parturition In The Rat
Abstract
Rats were sacrificed on days 19, 20, and 21 of pregnancy. Peripheral maternal blood and fetal blood were collected. Deoxycorticosterone (DOC) was tentatively identified using Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and radioimmunoassay. Mean levels of roc were 5. 37, 3. 74, and 5. 91 ng/ml in the rnaternal peripheral blood on days 19, 20, and 21 respectively. Levels of DOC in the fetuses were 3.90 and 1. 44 ng/ml on days 20 and 21 respectively. Evidence is also presented that suggests that DOC is being secreted in an episodic manner.
