The Alliance to Save Energy conducted case studies of conservation investment practices in five energy-intensive industries. A portion of the case studies focused on the economic evaluation of proposed conservation investments. The results suggested the need for analytic tools to help energy managers make the most persuasive case for investment in cost-effective conservation measures. This paper presents three forms of graphic analysis that can help energy managers demonstrate both the economic attractiveness of conservation projects and their impact on energy efficiency. Common pitfalls in the analysis of conservation projects are also discussed.en
