Abstract
Personal computers offer the potential for significantly easing the tasks of engineers and managers. Effective use of these powerful tools, however, requires good software. This paper describes a number of features affecting the usability of technical and management software. Areas discussed include program self-sufficiency, data entry procedures, presentation of output results, program flexibility, documentation, and support. A checklist is provided to assist the user in evaluating software.
