Abstract
Today's energy environment is a precarious one. Industry is well aware of the situation. Some have developed plans to cope with it, others are taking a 'wait and see' posture. To help in decision making, strategic planning has begun to emerge as an approach specifically structured to develop more comprehensive insight, direction, and control of a company's future during uncertain times. This paper will go through a 9 step strategic planning process. It will focus on energy management issues industrial companies are facing today, the fact that alternative resolutions have different impact on different areas of company operations, and that these impacts are now occurring in mature industries where automatic and rapid growth will no longer cover up poor management decisions.
