Abstract
Saturated steam contains heat in two different forms. Sensible heat and latent heat. Due to the nature of this vapor, the relative proportion of latent heat is higher at lower pressures compared to higher pressures. When steam is used for heating purposes, it is the latent heat portion that is extracted. This paper presents energy savings by using lower pressures of steam and also shows the savings realized in less flashing, with actual examples for exact savings in dollars and cents.
