Abstract
The reduction of energy consumption in the BP Group has a high priority and substantial savings have been achieved from improvements in operational efficiency and as a result of capital expenditure on energy efficient equipment. In order to provide the right impetus a BP Energy Conservation Committee was established and the role of this Committee is described.
In addition to an overall view of energy conservation activities this paper considers the importance and ways of providing the necessary staff motivation. Details are also given of a burner test rig installed at BP's Research Centre and a supervisory computer system which has been in operation for two years at one of BP's German refineries.
