Abstract
This article discusses the various heat loads in a pulp mill lime sludge kiln, pointing out which heat loads cannot be reduced and which heat loads can, and how a reduction in energy use can be achieved. In almost any existing rotary lime sludge kiln, it is possible to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel annually by paying attention to the proper operating details.
