dc.description.abstractSince the early 1900's, Europe has been designing and utilizing high temperature water (HTW) systems for process and district heat. The use of HTW systems was chosen over steam systems since HTW offers higher system operating efficiency and lower installed costs which were needed to offset the high cost of fuel. Today in the United States we find a similar energy situation as Europe saw in the past. With our fuel costs climbing, interest and popularity of HTW with its many benefits are growing rapidly. This paper will present and evaluate the use of a high temperature water (HTW) system and a conventional steam system. Solid, liquid and gaseous fuel applications will be presented along with the application of HTW to Cogeneration Systems. Life cycle cost data and a case study of gas turbine heat recovery will emphasize the important benefits and energy conservation HTW can provide in our current and future energy needs.en
