I 931 Chapter 15 is briefly reviewed to outline the importance and problems of smokeless control of refining and petrochemical flare steam flow rate. A unique mass flow meter is described, together with application information to enable continuous measurement of mass flow rate of flare gas, in spite of the hostile environment. Its use for initiating control of flare steam flow rate and the addition of molecular weight compensation, using specific gravity (relative density) measurement to achieve additional steam savings, are discussed, together with costs and relative savings achieved. Pay back well within one year can be obtained.en
