Heat Exchanger Network Targeting, Design and Analysis: The MIDAS Package
Abstract
Recent work to consolidate
pinch-based procedures for targeting,
design and analysis of heat exchanger
networks (HENs) has focused on the
production of powerful, user-friendly
software. Advanced optimization
techniques, such as mixed integer non-linear
programming, have been added to
established pinch procedures to increase
the power of these techniques, enabling
users to generate optimized HENs in an
interactive computational environment.
Additional procedures for improved HEN
area targeting and retrofit network
modifications have also been developed.
Within ICI these developments
(along with several others) have been
incorporated in the MIDAS software
package. This paper outlines some of
the technical developments that have
taken place to make this possible and
illustrates some of the capabilities of
the new software.
