Abstract
An innovative energy conservation project involving one
of the largest known plate heat exchangers in Canada saves
energy for Polysar Limited. This unique retrofit project has not
only increased the recovery of low grade heat but also integrated
and optimized the operation of two different water treatment
facilities. The estimated annual savings is in excess of
$350,000.
This paper describes the process optimization
opportunities which resulted from Polysar's plant expansion and
how this application of plate heat exchanger led to benefits that
went much beyond energy recovery.
