An Analysis of Two Industrial Assessment Center Extended Assessments
Abstract
The Industrial Assessment Center at Texas A&M University extended assessments by spending about two extra days at each of three manufacturing plants. The extended assessments are characterized by use of sophisticated electronic monitoring equipment to identify and quantify energy conservation projects, and by additional projects otherwise identified during the extra time spent in the plants. This paper provides detailed case studies of the latter two extended assessments (one was described in an earlier paper). For the second plant, monitoring identified four recommendations about equipment being left on that likely would not have been identified during a usual assessment, and provided data for quantification of annual savings of 75,600 kWh and $2,650. On the other hand, for the third case study no recommendations were identified from the monitored data. Another benefit of the additional time spent in each plant was an increase in the number of projects considered and recommended.
