Plant Wide Energy Management and Reporting Systems Provide Sustainable Results
Abstract
Powerhouse operators can obtain significant and sustainable energy savings through the implementation of Energy Management and Reporting Systems (EMRS) in industrial powerhouses. This is a case study of an EMRS application to improve long term performance. This system currently returns in excess of $1.5 million/year. The methodology consists of three steps. First, the EMRS integrates the powerhouse utility system into the balance of the plant process units, matching supply with demand at the lowest cost. Second, the Reporting System identifies the operating constraints that prevent the overall system from performing better and advises operators of the magnitude and frequency of the problem. Third, as the operators and technicians become more familiar with the EMRS, they can use this tool for even greater savings by identifying and correcting operating problems for sustainable results. In this case study, the system has identified the potential for an additional $3million savings annually.
