Incremental Implementation of Energy Management at Industrial Facilities
Abstract
The essential elements of a sustainable energy management program at industrial
facilities are defined in the ANSI/MSE 2000 Management System for Energy standard
document. Although many organizations have expressed interest in improving their
energy management practice by implementing the management system standard, most are
intimidated by the perceived complexity and sweeping authority of the standard and elect
not to pursue formal implementation. While the standard does require coordinated and
concentrated effort to complete, several organizations currently using the ANSI/MSE
2000 management system have followed an incremental approach to implementation.
The incremental approach can reduce the resources required to implement a workable
system, yet still achieve measurable improvements. Successful approaches to
incremental implementation of the standard are described, and implementation
approaches compatible with different scale organizations are presented.
