Thus mangle ye still the human race: a study in structural navigation

This thesis places three sociological figures in discourse with one another: Ferdinand Tönnies, Emile Durkheim and Friedrich Nietzsche. I argue, within the contexts of the three theorists philosophies, that contemporary society is problematic due to its many artifices enslaving individuals. The effects of these artifices are devastating on individuals living in contemporary society as they become encased in simulacra realities reified by engrained beliefs such as socially defined Âindividuality. I then propose that one possible method of creating individual freedom in contemporary society may be in the establishment of communities based upon deep friendships and trust.
