A PRACTICAL APPROACH FOR MEASURING ENERGY AND CARBON PERFORMANCE OF TURBOMACHINERY IN OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2021)
The purpose of this work is to present the first results of a practical approach developed for measuring the performance on energy and carbon of turbomachinery installed at offshore oil production plants, based on the ...
CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION IN ACID GAS RECOVERY SYSTEM THROUGH DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND DEPLOYMENT OF A 2000HP HYDRAULIC TURBOCHARGER
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
Four sets of hydraulic turbocharger based energy recovery systems (2000 hp each) were successfully designed, manufactured, tested and commissioned for Acid Gas Recovery plants (AGR) in Saudi Arabia. These five units can ...
Closed centrifugal compressor impellers have been manufactured using several methods through the years. Due to limitations of the materials and machining processes, most of these impellers have been manufactured in what is considered two piece or three piece methods. Despite the vast amount of experience with traditional construction methods, there is a drive to move towards one piece construction, where there are no joints and, in theory, lower probability of preexisting defects. Typically, the impellers that are being offered as one piece are those with relatively large openings where 5-axis milling machines can be utilized. This paper investigates several alternative methods to manufacturing small tip opening impellers as a single piece. The methods discussed include Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), investment casting, Hot Isostatic Pressed Powder Metal (HIP’d PM), and Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS).

sCO2Flex (Horizon 2020 grant agreement #764690) is a project that involves a consortium of several EU public and private partners. Within this program, the consortium addresses the necessities to upgrade existing fossil ...
LEAKAGE AND DYNAMIC FORCE COEFFICIENTS FOR A STEPPED LABYRINTH SEAL AND A STEPPED POCKET DAMPER SEAL SUPPLIED WITH WET GAS
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
Industrial centrifugal compressors use annular gap seals, typically labyrinth type, to restrict process gas leakage from high-pressure regions to low-pressure regions. Currently liquid tolerant compressors enable efficient ...
ADAPTATION OF REMOTE AND AUTONOMOUS OPERATION (RAO) FOR ROTATING EQUIPMENT OF PETRONAS FACILITIES
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
The Oil and Gas industry is increasingly facing with more complex and hazardous operations. This is resultant from integration with a more complex feed and product properties as well as requirement for operation in harsher ...
BEARING LOAD ANALYSIS OF RECIPROCATING PISTON COMPRESSORS
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
Many problems in today’s industrial environment require smart modeling assumptions in order to make them numerically accessible with an acceptable amount of effort. This case study shows how a field problem (main bearing ...
Additive Manufacturing of Cryogenic Pump Impellers
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
Additive manufacturing has been utilized in an increasing number of applications for many different types of services. Cryogenic pump impellers can be manufactured to ASTM F3318 for AlSi10Mg in the HIP + T6 condition through ...
High Speed Coupling Failure related to Torsional Vibration
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
This case study presents compressor high speed coupling failure where torsional natural frequency is excited. The case study examines a repeat high speed coupling failure that excited 2ᵈ torsional natural frequency ...
Detection of Broken Blade on Compressor
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
A sudden step change in vibration was observed on a 7400 rpm compressor with direct amplitude from 43 um pp to over 62 um pp (trip level) at NDE, thus tripping the unit Vibration reached over 120 um pp at 4000 rpm, compared ...
A comparison of Operating Deflection Shape and Motion Amplification Video Techniques for Vibration Analysis
(Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2022)
The Operating Deflection Shape (ODS) technique that was derived from Experimental Modal Analysis has served well to assist users in quantifying vibration amplitudes, determining vibration mode shapes, looseness between ...
