CSP06 - Poor Hydraulic Performance from Large Barrel Pumps
Abstract
A pair of large barrel pumps have experienced poor reliability and poor hydraulic performance since their installation in 1993. Despite repeated overhauls and design changes, the problem persisted. A detailed analysis found two issues. The pumps were experiencing abrasive damage from passing large quantities of abrasive solids. A piping error at original installation created a direct spillback path for discharge flow back to suction.
