Resilience in the General Factor of Personality: Understanding the Role of Positive Affect, Social Support, and Participation in Distress Related To Chronic Illness or Disability
Abstract
This study investigated how positive affect, social support, and participation influence the relationship between resilience and distress for individuals with chronic health conditions. The data was gathered from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) database (Harris et al., 2009) and analyzed using path analysis. The GFP as it relates to resilience was compared to the resilient personality prototype model, and conclusions were drawn regarding which model best explains resilience and its relationship with psychological distress.
Results can be used to inform treatment intervention and policy development impacting the lives of those who live with chronic health conditions.
