    Abstract
A method of inhibiting fibrin clot formation is provided. The decorin protein, peptide, or related fragments are found to bind fibrinogen in the presence of Zinc (Zn2+), thus preventing the formation of fibrin clots. The decorin protein, peptide, or related fragments can be utilized as an anticoagulant and in methods of preventing and/or treating diseases and disorders characterized by clot formation.
