dc.description.abstractDr. Jeff Mathewson, (1949-2012) came to College Station to work on his Doctoral training. He went on to work as a Microbiologist in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. He also served the City of Houston, Texas as Chief of Clinical Laboratory Services for the Department of Public Health. And later became Laboratory Director and Professor of Medicine and Disease Control at the University of Texas Medical School and School of Public Health. Dr. Mathewson's career took him to the Oklahoma State Department of Health, and then to Jefferson City, Missouri as Director of their State Public Health Laboratory. Dr. Jeff Mathewson passed away on September 28, 2012 after courageously fighting cancer. A 1976 graduate of Texas A&M University, Dr. Merry Rideout worked in diagnostics and taught in the microbiology department at the A&M Veterinary Teaching Hospital until 1988.en
