"Dr. Leo Bustad was a veterinarian who also happened to be an outstanding educator, scientist and humanitarian. While serving as dean of the veterinary school at Washington State University, he co-founded the People-Pet Partnership, the first university based community service program focusing on the human-animal bond. ...Dr. Bustad served as the first president of the Delta Society, a position he held until 1990. Dr. Leo K. Bustad (1920-1998) speaks at a College of Veterinary Medicine graduation ceremony at Texas A&M. Dr. Bustad was the inspiration for the "Bustad companion Animal Veterinarian of the Year Award", which is given to a veterinarian since 1986; whose work exemplifies and promotes the human animal bond.
