As of 2017 Dr. Bob Burghardt was Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, Director of the Image Analysis Laboratory and Professor, Veterinary Integrative Biosciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. He earned a B.S. in Zoology at the University of Michigan and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Wayne State University. He spent two years as a Ford Foundation postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Anatomy and the Laboratory of Human Reproduction and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School before joining the faculty at Texas A&M University in 1978. For the past 38 years, he has thoroughly enjoyed teaching graduate microscopy and cell biology courses, conducting extramurally funded research in reproductive biology and toxicology and spent most of this time as director of shared microscopy core facilities. His appreciation of research and graduate education is reflected in his service as chair or co-chair of 12 Ph.D. and 9 M.S. students from his lab, past service as a member of over 260 graduate advisory committees and current service on 27 graduate committees. Outside of work he enjoys family time, fitness and sports.
