This Ebay purchase was made by librarian Trenton Boyd and donated to the Medical Sciences Library. The man in this photograph has strong family resemblance to the Francis brothers. Mark Francis had four brothers; William, David, John and Edward. William a farmer, remained on the family farm and died an unmarried man with no children. David, also a farmer married a woman named Ella or Etta and they had five children; four girls and one boy. John became a local physician and practiced medicine in Hamilton, Ohio. All census records show him as single and a boarder in other homes. Edward, also a doctor who specialized in science and research lived in Washington D. C. devoting his time to the betterment of public health in our country. In 1928 he was nominated for a Nobel Prize for his work with Bacillus tularense, becoming infected and treating himself in the process; and since 1959 the tularemia organism has been known as Francisella in honor of his research. No record has been found that he was ever married or had children. It is thought that the people in this photograph could be the family of David Francis or at least a close cousin.en
