Borescope Color Photography: A New Engineering Technology For Marine Gas Turbine Condition Monitoring
Abstract
This paper discusses the applications of borescope photography for marine gas turbine condition monitoring. A series of borescope photographs are presented showing some of the more common degradation identified in large marine gas turbines. The paper establishes the benefits of early identification of abnormal conditions prior to detection by built-in sensors. It emphasizes the importance of immediate corrective action before accelerated degradation leads to catastrophic failure. Special lighting techniques are also covered as well as identification of general areas where equipment improvements will reduce photographic times.
