What's Correct For My Application - A Centrifugal Or Reciprocating Compressor?.
Abstract
This tutorial addresses the question of which compressor type is better suited to a given application - a centrifugal or reciprocating design. The general application map will be presented and discussed, as will the advantage and disadvantages of each type of compressor. The application guidelines will be addressed from the standpoint of reliability, cost, efficiency, size, and other more general application parameters such as molecular weight, compression ratio, and flow range, etc. The intent of the tutorial will be to provide guidelines and comparative information to be used by contractors and users to determine which type of compressor will be the best fit for their particular application.
