I 682, now in its 4th Edition, has made a concerted effort to accurately define and distinguish between different types of seal configurations available under the designation of ‘Arrangement 2’, including 2CW-CW, 2CW-CS, and 2NC-CS. While the differences between the available types of seals associated with this designation are reasonably well understood by those in the industry, there are still questions end users have when considering an Arrangement 2 seal for an application; in particular, there are specific concerns regarding reliability and integrity of dry containment seals when compared to wet buffer outer seals. The process of selecting the configuration, and the associated support system (piping plan) requires an evaluation of all aspects associated with the functionality and interaction between these elements. The tutorial will address and discuss the following aspects to consider when evaluating the outer seal design in API 682 arrangement 2 configurations.en
