| dc.description.abstract | Congress is currently debating amendments to the Clean Air Act which would strengthen and enhance the current Clean Air Act. The bill would guarantee a reduction of 10 million tons of sulfur dioxide from 1980 levels; would sharply reduce pollutants that contribute to urban ozone; and would establish a set schedule for regulation of toxic air emissions. The bill would also establish a system of marketable permits to allow acid rain reductions to be achieved in the least costly manner and it would stiffen penalties for those that violate our clean air laws. The bill would allow for both environmental protection and economic growth. two long-standing concerns often considered at odds with each other. | en |
