Kα X-ray Spectra of Sodium Compounds Excited by High Energy, Heavy Charged Particles
Abstract
The Kα x-ray spectra of sodium compounds produced by bombardment with 5.2 MeV He⁺ and 20 MeV C³⁺ were measured using a curved crystal spectrometer. The average probability of electron transfer to the L shell of sodium was found to be 0.20 ±0.01 for carbon ion excitation and ranged from 0.27 to 0.45 for helium excitation. X-rays emitted by the radiative Auger process were measured and a previously unreported line at 951 eV, corresponding to a KL₁L₂,₃ Auger transition, was seen.
