A Comparison of Temperature Regulating Abilities of British vs. Zebu Cattle
Abstract
Hypothalamic cannulae were implanted in four female Zebu crossbred calves. The cannula equipped calves were pre-fitted with a hypothalamic thermocouple and physiological measuring equipment then subjected to a hyperthermal-stressful environment and data recorded. Results demonstrate the superior temperature regulating ability of Zebu animals and additionally show respiration not to be a primary factor in heat dissapation in large ruminants.
