Abstract
Some attempts have been made to normalize the power consumption of mechanical draft cooling towers by ON/OFF and/or multi-speed fan motor operation. These have not proven very successful for the most part for lack of control discipline. That is, without full automatic control, the human operator has very little incentive to be an efficient and accurate power regulator.
