Abstract
Energy conservation in small and medium horsepower
industrial centrifugal power users has received
very little attention to date. Monsanto
Chocolate Bayou is using an approach which analyzes
the complete system rather than starting with the
separate system components. Since most fluid
systems involve many engineering functions, a
multifunctional task force has been organized to
do the necessary audit of plant centrifugal systems.
Primarily, the task force will review applications
of 50 to 1500 HP.
This paper will discuss some of the technology
that has been used by this task force in several
successful innovative conservation applications.
Applications discussed involve the addition of a
variable speed turbine drive, the removal of excess
system pressure drop, motor speed changes
and variable drive units, and the matching of
pumps to systems.
