dc.description.abstract | This paper reviews the historical development of electricity use in Industry and contrasts historical patterns with emerging use of electrotechnologies in the major materials processing industries. The "form value" of electricity in industrial processes is defined and used as a criterion for assessing the competitiveness of electrically-based processes relative to conventional direct-fueled processes. The short-term and long-term prospects for several electrotechnologies are discussed. | en |
