dc.description.abstractThe turbomachinery used by utilities and industrial plants represent the highest level of aerodynamic design and engineering. It is critical that airfoils and other gas or steam path components maintain their shape and surface profile during service. Degradation of these components has a direct and immediate impact of engine efficiency, fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and availability. Corrosion and erosion are the leading causes of performance deterioration. With increasing pressures on operators for power plant efficiency and reliability, the need to prevent corrosion and erosion is growing. Operators, overhaulers, and manufacturers have been using protective coatings for over twenty-five years to prevent erosion and corrosion. The evolution of these coatings has lead to the development of tailored coatings for different applications. In addition, coatings now offer multiple benefits. The most advanced compressor coatings restore surface finish, resist erosion, and provide protection from corrosion.en
