“A cow should have a calf every year. That is a very straight forward and simple statement, but cattlemen know it takes effort, planning and management to make this happen. One way to achieve this goal is to establish well-defined breeding and calving seasons. When the calving season is too long, management is more difficult and many cows will not calve every year. Shorter, controlled calving seasons make the bottom line better because both herd management (expenses) and marketing (income) can be better controlled.
