Will Cryptocurrencies Replace the Money We Know?
Abstract
Most commerce is conducted not with physical currency but by digital transfers of titles to currency, at least in the developed world. Currently there are approximately 300 digital exchanges that will exchange cryptocurrencies for one another and for titles to currency, as well as 200 stable coins - cryptocurrencies that at least try to maintain their price equal to an existing currency, usually the U.S. dollar. In policy study 2105, author Thomas R. Saving discusses the conditions a competitor supplier of a circulating media must meet, whether existing cryptocurrencies are able to meet these conditions, and whether stable cryptocurrencies have the potential to be part of the private money supply
