Reciprocating Compressor Crankshaft Fatigue Failure
Abstract
Determining the cause of a crankshaft failure which resulted in significant collateral damage within an Oxygen compressor safety barrier can be challenging despite having the industry recommended instrumentation. This case study presents the compressor design and operational history leading up the fatigue failure and the investigation that followed on the 3-stage, W-type reciprocating compressor.
