An archaeological survey was conducted at a 1.5-acre tract in the city limits of Beaumont, Texas on the site of the proposed Riverfront Park, Phase II, by Brazos Valley Research Associates. Fieldwork was carried out on December 14, 1989. A pedestrian survey, accompanied by shovel testing, auger probing, and visual examination of exposed areas along the river, failed to produce evidence of a prehistoric or historic site. A review of historic maps and aerial photographs revealed the project area had been heavily utilized by waterfront industry since 1900. Personal communication with city officials familiar with the area indicated that much of the project area was once a slope built up by fill to accommodate the needs of industry. The disturbed nature of the site was verified during the field survey. It is highly unlikely that undisturbed cultural materials exist anywhere within the project area.en
