Abstract
This paper focuses on the potential and application of developing wave energy technology in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The conditions (weather, wave climate, activity of the oil industry, etc.) in the GOM are assessed and the attributes of wave energy in the GOM is explored and verified. Based on the findings, there is great potential in the GOM for wave energy technology and it is expected that the wave energy captured from the GOM can provide a considerable portion of power required by oil platforms in that area.
