Abstract
Prompted by a combination of PURPA and a national concern about electricity price and supply, many utilities now have in place industrial time-of-day electric rates. When properly designed, these rates present an opportunity for energy-intensive industrial customers to lower their cost of power while at the same time improving the load characteristics of their utility supplier. This paper examines the present state of time-of-day rates and discusses steps that Air Products is taking to maximize their electric use productivity.
