This is a high level review of the most important aspects of industrial compressed air systems, with an eye toward improving overall quality and efficiency. We discuss the most important efficiency metric and how to accurately measure it in the field. We discuss all the proven supply side optimization strategies with real examples and results. ISO air quality standards are discussed and how their interpretation impacts the cost of operating compressed air systems. We offer best practice methods to control moisture in systems. Issues and obstacles regarding distribution piping, point of use drying, storage, leaks, and inappropriate use are explored and best practice solutions offered. Finally, an action plan to get what you really need at the total lowest cost is laid out for all system managers.
