Abstract
Looking for a way to reduce your refining or petrochemical energy cost by 10-15%? With the dramatic increase in the cost of natural gas last year, the justification for doing so can be compelling. Consider energy conservation as one of your first steps. Not just the "traditional" practices of tuning up furnaces and steam systems, but also making more effective use of energy in your process operations. There is often a wide range of alternatives available to your current operation, involving both procedural and capital improvements with a simple payout of a year or less. Shell Global Solutions has been actively developing this approach for the past 25 years as part of its ongoing support of Shell businesses as well as non-Shell customers. This overview is based on our energy improvement efforts in our refineries, US and worldwide.
